How do you feel about drugs, illegal or otherwise? I find it intereting that the two most destructive drugs in the history of mankind, alcohol and tobacco are legal, while drugs such as marijuana, which no one has ever died as a direct result of taking, and GHB, a non-toxic molecule found in every cell of the human body, are illegal.
Something to think about next time you're killing brain cells while hunched over a beer.

Re: Drugs
Thu, November 6, 2003 - 5:01 AMThere was a time in my life when I thought all drugs should be legal. I'm not shure if I feel that way still. Some drugs make people too violent (including alcohol for some). I enjoy marijuana but only about twice a year. Most of all I enjoy being sober and feeling healthy. That is just me though, all drugs that I have tried just make me feel like crap. I like a clarity of mind. However, you can probably find me enjoying an alcoholic beverage every week. It's not that I feel alcohol is the most healthy or acceptable. I just really enjoy a good beer or whiskey most of all.
Anyone doing any drug has to enforce some sort of self control while doing so. I've seen people turn into real losers over time by becoming dependent. Drug use is a personal thing, it's different for everyone. Much like religion. Weird. -

Re: Drugs
Sat, November 22, 2003 - 8:57 PMI think that some drugs should be controled, but we're going about it the wrong way... Any drug you take can be lethal if enough is taken...
alcohol... 6x
asprin.....10x
tylenol....20x
but pot?...65,000x on mice and they still don't die, just go sleep it off.
Why is it that alchohol and cigarettes, two of the more dangerous and addictive drugs, are the legal ones? Something screams foul, and I don't know what more I can do than lobby my senators after we kick Bush out of office... -

Re: Drugs
Sat, December 13, 2003 - 3:06 AMthis is one reason I love living in switzerland... all common drugs are illegal as everywhere which doesn't bother me because I'm not interested in. BUT: marijuana is treated differently. You can buy it in stores and even smoke it on public places. nobody cares what you if except you run into a police officier (and there's not much of them). they will give you a fine of 100 swiss francs ($65) and walk away again.... isnt that great?
cheers

Re: Drugs
Tue, August 17, 2004 - 4:45 PMGHB has killed people?
Perhaps you can show me the coroner's report on these people showing that GHB was the only drug present in their system and the cause of death was acute GHB toxicity.
Don't believe everything you see on TV or read in the paper. I have been unable to find a single death related to a GHB overdose where there were no other drugs present.
During the clinical trial for Xyrem (sodium oxybate, AKA GHB) one person tried to kill himself by take a dose of over 150g of GHB. The man survivied without any lasting problems. GHB is fully active at a dose of 1 g and considered "overdose" at 10g. This man's ovedose on GHB is analogous to a person drinking 150 shots of 40 proof alcohol and living. Something which is quite impossible. -

Re: Drugs
Fri, January 21, 2005 - 7:17 PMLegalize it all. Street drugs can be cut with anything. You don't know what you are getting could be rat poison. Legalization promotes control over this problem. If there are standards a drug has to meet to be sold then it makes it a safer recreation for everyone. Yu cannot stop people from using drugs that can be harmful to them (e.g. alcohol), but you can have a bit more quality control which comes with legalization.
Not to ruin the fun here, but I believe that certain drugs, yes, even our good budy marajuana, can induce mental health problems such as depression, bi-polar disorder and even schizophrenia in those who are succeptable. For some people it can be the push over the edge of a mental cliff. Now, this doesn't mean I am demonizing marajuana and other drugs, but I would like to point out that people need to be aware. Legalization, again, would help this situation.
